Infection Control In Long Term and Medical Rehabilitation Enhancement (ICLaRE)

Based on literature, there was a noted high infection rates among long-term care and medical rehabilitation facilities , where infection rates range from 1.8 to 13.5 per 1000 resident-care days including urinary tract infection (UTI), lower respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal outbreaks, and its related negative consequences and in increasing morbidity, length of stay, cost, and mortality rates presenting a significant challenge in managing and understanding infection epidemiology and impact. The Ministry of health is committed to providing high standards of infection prevention and control which is critical in providing a high quality and safe health care across long term and medical rehabilitation facilities. Accordingly, the General Directorate of Infection Prevention & Control has initiated a comprehensive project to tackle and confine the healthcare acquired infections in these facilities.

  • To establish a safer environment for patients, staff, and visitors in rehabilitation and long-term care services by implementing robust infection control measures.

Aim

  • Applying infection control measures and raising the level of awareness and skills regarding the infection control in all Long-Term Care and Medical Rehabilitation services by the end of 2025.
